Healthy Thanksgiving Meal Tips

There are many ways to keep Thanksgiving from being a meal you regret. The first way, is to just not eat too much! (I'll give you tips on how to do that below.)

Making activity a part of your holiday tradition is another way to keep from overloading on the calories. Try suggesting a family walk or tag football ritual. Exercise before the meal will keep you from wanting to overeat and diminish the benefits of your exercise. Planning exercise after the meal, will keep you from eating to the point of being overfull since you know you'll have to leave the couch!

Some other suggestions for food choices:

  • Light turkey meat is much lower in fat than dark meat. (5g vs. 10g per serving.)
  • Dip your fork in salad dressing on the side of your salad, rather than tossing the salad dressing in the salad ahead of time.
  • Load up on veggies to fill you up with minimal calories.
  • Drink water to quench your thirst and fill your stomach.
  • Prepare stuffing separately from the turkey to let the fat juices drip inot the pan.
  • Decrease the amount of turkey dripping you add to the gravy. (Or skip it.)
